Meet CNC Operator Helene

After more than a decade with Kystdesign, she remains just as enthusiastic about the work as when she first started.
Helene Sørvåg’s path to becoming a CNC Operator started while she was still in school. During a work placement, she got her first insight into machining and quickly discovered that she enjoyed the work.
Helene first joined our machining department as an apprentice. After completing her apprenticeship, she continued working in the department and has remained with Kystdesign the last 12 years.
No Two Days Are the Same
One of the main reasons Helene has stayed with us is the variety in the work days.
No two days are exactly the same. We produce a wide range of components, and there is always something new to work on. The people are also a big part of why I’ve stayed for so long.

As a CNC Operator, a typical day involves planning and preparing production, selecting tools, setting up machines, and manufacturing components. Quality control is an important part of the process, ensuring that every part meets the required standards and specifications.
Being Part of the Growth
Over the years, she has seen Kystdesign grow significantly. When she started, the company had around 25 employees. Today, the team is many times larger.
«It’s been exciting to be part of that journey,» she says.
«The growth over the last years has been incredible. We’ve gone from producing one or two ROVs a year to close to twenty. Being part of that development has been really rewarding.»
She also highlights Kystdesign’s advanced equipment as one of the things she enjoys most about her work. A capable machine park, and the combination of modern equipment, interesting projects, and great colleagues makes this a great place to work for Helene.
Family Life and Walks
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her young daughter and family. Helene also likes being outdoors and going for walks whenever she gets the chance.
